How To Deal With Regret And Guilt | Overcome Regret And Shame | Letting Go Of The Past. Check out my Free Ebook ►http://bit.ly/RealizedEbook
Regret, guilt, and shame are some of the most negative emotions that one can experience. These emotions are dense, and are easy for the mind to fixate on.
I personally felt a great sense of guilt after not being able to help my best friend through the death of his father. This guilt stayed with me for a very long time until I realized that the being in a state of constant regret was not productive.
It is far easier to forgive others for their mistakes than it is to forgive ourselves. Since we see the world through our lens from birth to death, we often hold ourselves to a higher standard.
You must always remember that you are a mortal, and as a result are fallible. You will make mistakes and decisions that you will regret. What is important is how you react to these mistakes.
If we can force ourselves to constantly look for the lessons in our mistakes instead of wasting time beating ourselves down, we would live far happier lives.
If you must revisit painful memories do so from the third person, in NLP this is called ‘disassociating’ from the memory. A first-person view often triggers the painful emotions, so it is best that we not engage in these.
The regret we experience can come from:
• Not spending enough time with a loved one that passed away.
• Not working harder on ourselves when we were younger.
• Mistreating someone.
• Poor health choices that lead to sickness
Or a multitude of other things, the protocol is always the same. Learn the lesson, and move on with your life.
